Sloup v Čechách, a holiday resort, is located 3km south-east of Nový Bor. It extends in a broad valley of the Dobranovský potok at the north-west foot of Svojkovské vrchy.
The village was first mentioned in 1352. Its name was derived from the shape of a prominent sandstone massif at the southern fringe of the village. Sloup is a pleasant holiday destination; in the 1990s an architectural reserve of the village type was declared there. Sloup is an ideal place for hiking and cycling trips to nearby Lužické hory.
