The village was named after a mountain with roots (kořeny). It was founded in 1960 by merging the villages of Polubný, Příchovice, Jizerka and Rejdice. Rejdice, a mountain village, lies 1.5km south-east of Příchovice. Kořenov is located in the Protected Landscape Area of Jizerské hory and its part also extends into the Krkonoše National Park.
With its area of almost 56km2, it is the biggest mountain village in our country. Thanks to its strategic location, Kořenov is a popular holiday resort. In the nearest surroundings, you may use 7 ski lifts, a cable railway and tens of kilometres of cross-country ski tracks, including connection to the Jizerská magistrála (motorway) and Krkonoše. In summer you may take numerous hiking trails and cycle tracks.
